Horst grew up with a blend of two different cultures, blending together Germany and Mexico. Living in Mexico gave him the opportunity to experience the beauty of our oceans as this country has an ample coastline from the Pacific Ocean, to the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean. During those travels he fell in love with the ocean and wanted to dedicate his studies to it.
During the study Horst figured then out that he loves the interaction with guests and, thus, decided that being a wildlife guide is the right job for him. In 2025 he then moved to Madeira, a place he chose since both his nationalities are represented here; it resembles Latin America, his home continent but also is a part of Europe. He enjoys the fact that Lobosonda works with small groups of clients, allowing him to personally interact with the guests. He particularly enjoys guiding tours aboard our traditional vessel, the Ribeira Brava, because of this. Its slow pace provides with Horst with ample time to interact with his guests and communicate his contagious passion for the ocean. The crucial reason for him choosing Lobosonda, however, was its responsible approach to observing nature which aligns perfectly with what Horst believes wildlife encounters should look like.
