During the morning tour on our traditional boat we enjoyed several beautiful encounters, which included several animals that were almost posing for the cameras on board. Our trip began with a sighting that involved a group of Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) 2 nautical miles off the coast of Jardim do Mar and, while the majority of the group exhibited more evasive behaviour, two individuals remained close to our bow regularly glancing up at us. The next sighting took place further out at sea with a large group of Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis). Many of the animals were busy hunting with the pursued school of fish marked at the surface by foraging Corys Shearwaters (Calonectris borealis). The remaining members of the herd shot to and fro past the boat, elegantly skimming the waters surface and gently riding the waves of our bow. On our way back to the marina, we encountered yet another group of fast-moving Bottlenose dolphins that were very active at the surface and showed off with some impressive leaps.
