            26.09.2018 – We are related to …

Published by Marlene Cabral on October 5, 2018

Who thinks of marine mammals, certainly has first whales and dolphins in mind. In fact, this is just one group of the four different marine mammal groups. Interestingly, all come from different land mammal species. The seals nearest relative ashore is the bear; the manatee is related to the elephants and sea otters belong to the genus Marten. The definitive affiliation of whales is finally not clear yet. But according to current knowledge, it is believed that they are descended from cloven-hoofed animals. In all likelihood, their nearest relatives on land would be the hippos.

Today on Ribeira Brava we had unfortunately no sighting.
