This morning, the search for marine mammals went on for a long time until we finally spotted Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). But there is also a lot of otheres to discover at sea. Today, a fleet of Portuguese man-o-wars (Physalia physalis) was also travelling on the Atlantic. They floated on the waves in all their beauty. The Portuguese man o’ war is not a single spieces, but a colony of specialised polyps that work together symbiotically to survive. The gas-filled swim bladder keeps them at the surface and uses the wind to drift across the sea. The tentacles have the task of catching prey with poisonous cnidocytes. Another type of polyp is responsible for digestion.
In the afternoon, the guests were surprised by a Tropical whale (Balaenoptera edeni) and Bottlenose dolphins.
