Today we had some floating surprises on the surface of the ocean. On our first trip our skipper Daniel spotted a dead fish floating on the surface. Being curious we picked it up and to our surprise we figured out that we had now a fish from the deep sea on board. After looking up in books and the internet back in the shop and with the help of our marine biologists, we think that the fish is an Alfonsino (Beryx decadactylus) or Orange roughy (Hoplostethus atlanticus). These fish are deep sea fish and are found below 200m of depth.
On the second trip on the other hand we found a piece of a boat floating at the surface. It must have been already a long time in the water, as it was completely covered by barnacles (at least the part under the surface). We tried to check, if below it there were some fish, but we had no luck.
Apart from these two sightings we were blessed by Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) on both trips.
