Today was Stenella day. We were finally able to go out to sea again. Even though it got a bit more turbulent towards the middle of the morning tour. We had the chance to accompany a large school of Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). On our further search we found Portuguese man o’ wars (Physalia physalis), a By- the wind salor (Velella velella) and Sargassum seaweed. On the speedboat tours, we can quickly fish these small companions out of the sea to introduce these sea creatures to our guests. One speciality was that we got these two different species in a water scoop. The other speciality? Our nice, young, new colleague Horst, with whom I had my first tour today.
On the second and third tour, Drumond, our spotter, found Short-finned pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) for us.
Both marine mammal species need our protection. So please sign the petitions against the brutality in Taiji/Japan and on the Faroe Islands.
