The sea was very choppy today and it was no easy task for our spotter to find marine mammals in the up and down moving sea. But all’s well that ends well. In the end, our guests on both boats were able to observe a school of Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) travelling south-east. In the centre of them was a calf that was holding close to its mother’s side. There, the mother’s movement creates an undertow, which is useful for the little dolphin if it wants to keep up with the group. A healthy mother gives birth to a calf every two to three years. Her gestation period is twelve months.
