            04.08.2026 – Unforgettable dolphin encounters

Published by Gemma Stockmans on August 11, 2026

Today’s trips were filled with incredible dolphin encounters, giving our guests the opportunity to observe a wonderful variety of species and experience the unique behaviours that make each one so special.

Our morning trip was nothing short of spectacular. We encountered Risso’s dolphins (Grampus griseus), Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis), and Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). It was amazing to show our guests the clear differences between these species—from their distinctive appearances to their unique behaviours. Watching everyone compare the playful Atlantic spotted dolphins, the curious bottlenose dolphins, and the impressive Risso’s dolphins made the experience even more memorable.

During the afternoon trip, we were treated to sightings of Rough-toothed dolphins (Steno bredanensis) alongside the ever-charismatic bottlenose dolphins. Rough-toothed dolphins are always a special sighting, making this encounter one our guests won’t soon forget.

Our 16:30 trip rounded off the day perfectly, with more encounters featuring Bottlenose dolphins and the energetic Atlantic spotted dolphins, providing another fantastic opportunity to admire these beautiful animals in their natural habitat.

Days like today remind us how diverse Madeira’s waters truly are. Every trip is different, and sharing these magical moments with our guests is what makes our work so rewarding. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow will bring!
