            11.09.2020 – Our responsibility

Published by Fatima Kutzschbach on September 21, 2020

We saw two species today on our morning tour with our traditional fishing boat Ribeira Brava. The widely dispersed group of the Short-finned Pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) was unusually brisk. The coastal Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), on the other hand, took their time on their way west.

Species extinction is on everyone’s lips! Even before we could grasp the diversity of life, people risk the extermination of flora and fauna with their outrageous treatment of the environment, with their arrogance, with their non-acceptance of the place they occupy, namely to be a small piece of the puzzle in the gigantic, beautiful plan called universe. The loss of the diversity of life is based on the systematic destruction of living space. Habitats are being littered, poisoned and exploited all over the world. It is incomprehensible how humans take the right to put themselves first. What would we be without the smallest part of life, regardless of the living space. Everything is an unbelievable, wonderful interplay of togetherness, everything is interwoven. Therefore humans can no longer afford to kill, to destroy! We all bear the consequence, especially our children.

That is why it is so important to take responsibility wherever possible. For our guests on the tours, for the followers of our blog, it may be a small step with perhaps a major impact: sign petitions, support organizations that are committed to protecting the environment. If you want to stand up for the two species that we encountered today, then say “NO” to the events in Taiji / Japan and on the Faroe Islands. Get involved!
