            06.11.2019 – Celebrate life

Published by Fatima Kutzschbach on November 13, 2019

If you have such beautiful sightings as today, then you can just be happy! In the morning there were still plenty of waves, but it was possible to go out and observe our friends, the marine mammals in the ups and downs as they surfed the waves. Two Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) inspected our speedboat from all sides and they were gone. Here and there, Pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) worked their way through the waves, spontaneously changing directions to enjoy a short surf. A little break from swimming against the current? Who knows? The kindergarten group of Pilot whales has probably impressed everyone the most. This tender, young life keeps up with the group’s adult animals. Mini small Pilot whale calves, some of which still had their birthmarks, need to master life in such a challenging habitat as the sea. A great masterpiece! What a pleasure to share in their life for a moment. Thank you, dear guests, for the nice gathering of the end of our trip and the extra time you spent :).

Our Ribeira Brava was still fortunate enough to encounter Blainville Beaked Whales (Mesoplodon densirostris). And our captain Filipe told me it was a very nice sighting.

In the afternoon it became turbulent! We were lucky enough to meet a huge school (300+) Atlantic Spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis). These little dolphins were full of energy and zest for life. Surfing in the bow wave of our fishing boat, mating behavior, feeding behavior, leaps, surfing … it seemed the motto of this big group was just to be happy and to celebrate life. What a nice motto! You could also stick a little note to the mirror, with the wonderful memory of this motto. 🙂

We wish our sweet couple, which today celebrated a very special occasion on the Ribeira Brava (the 15th time), I wish that we spend many years, this day together on the sea with the wonderful marine mammals. 🙂
