What a beautiful sighting was waiting for us this morning. Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) were hunting. Sometimes, when our winter dolphins jumped elegantly out of the water, you could see the needlefishes fleeing in all directions. One photo from the tour shows the dolphin hunter holding a needlefish in its beak. Dolphins hunt with sonar. The so-called melon, through which the sound is emitted, is located in their skull. The receiving channel is the oily substance on both sides of the lower jaw.
We also watched our winter dolphins at the buffet at lunchtime. Brunch or lunch? Hard to say.
