Our Sunday dolphins on all tours were our lively, socializing Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis). They are always a pleasure!
Atlantic spotted dolphins are found in all warm and tropical waters of the Atlantic. They are usually found in groups of up to 50 individuals. But sometimes different groups of 200 or more animals get together. One mates, which keeps the gene pool fresh and the animals healthy; they socialize and hunt together. Atlantic spotted dolphins are fast, acrobatic swimmers that fly over the ocean surface and surf the waves created by boats. They have a complex social structure. Within the group, the animals are sometimes also organized by age or sex.
Today we had beautiful close encounters with these interactive, fun dolphins.
