Calm waters, a sunny day and good visibility for everyone, including our spotter. Both boats sailed out in the morning and several species were already located by “our eyes on land” some very close to shore and others further out. In this situations the spotter has to organise and manage what he is seeing through his binoculars, according to each boat´s sailing features. Sea conditions and of course the timetable. Despite appearing a relaxed job by pedestrians that may pass by a spotter working on land, his decisions and opinions together with the Skipper´s on board, are often what defines the trip. This was the case again today, while the Ribeira Brava sighted a group of Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) and Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) close to shore, Stenella went further out and saw Short-finned pilot whale (Globicephala macrorhynchus) and later some Bottlenose dolphins. Ribeira Brava in the afternoon trip, then observed the same Bottlenose dolphins group as in the morning and then later in the trip a group of Short-beaked common dolphins…
