            17.02.2026 – Dolphin confetti

Published by Fatima Kutzschbach on February 23, 2026

Today we saw the elegant Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis), which are among the most sociable marine mammals. With its distinctive hourglass pattern on its sides, this dolphin is easily recognizable. It is known for its acrobatic jumps, which we were able to admire plenty of today. When common dolphins hunt, they often perform wonderful jumps. They are opportunistic feeders, mainly eating small to medium-sized schooling fish and pelagic cephalopods. Their main diet includes sardines, mackerel, herring, anchovies, and hake. Hopefully, everyone got their fill today.

The Blainville’s beaked whales (Mesoplodon densirostris) were on a long dive. Hopefully with success. Our patient guests only got a brief glimpse of them.
