Encountering a Sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus), or, as in our present case, several, on the ocean is a special experience. In total, there were at least five of these toothed whales spread over a larger area. Two Sperm whales swam side by side, while a third was in a hurry to catch up with them.
Suddenly, a small group of Short-finned Pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) appeared. This doubled the matriarchal energy, because both, the large Sperm whales and Pilot whales are led by an experienced female. So today we experienced bundled woman power.
What do these two different species have in common besides female power? They are squid lovers and go to great depths to fill their stomachs. Her pregnancy lasted an incredible 16 months. They maintain a strong sense of solidarity and support in their pods.
