We like to say that the ever-changing weather at this time of the year calls for “the onion look” – that is wearing layers of thinner clothes to remove and put on respectively. The wind gusts at sea, as well as the warm rays of the sun, come and go as they please often leading to abrupt changes out at sea.
The day started out with a trip out on a relatively calm and slightly bumpy ocean and our Stenella was soon welcomed by a pod of around 25. Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). The animals socialised, breached and even approached our bow as our captain gently stirred the boat into the sightings area. We then sped off to search for Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) that disappeared in the blinding rays of the sun and were impossible for our spotter to follow from land. Our guests appreciated all our efforts today and we appreciate them for it!
Our second trip began with some stronger Northwest wind..and with yet another pod of Bottlenose dolphins. This pod was now foraging closer to the coastline in the vicinity of a nearby fish farm. We enjoyed some lovely moments with the animals before searching the waters further west. Our captain tried his best to keep our guests dry despite the windy conditions but failed on the last turn into the marina. This trip also ended with a lot of appreciation on the side of our guests…and with several salty smiles.
