            14.07.2026 – Playful

Published by Gemma Stockmans on July 20, 2026
Today, every one of our tours was greeted by the energetic Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis). Known for their curiosity, playful nature, and impressive acrobatics, these dolphins can be seen in the waters around Madeira throughout much of the year, with sightings being especially common from spring through autumn.
Several pods included mothers with their calves, creating a truly heartwarming experience for our guests. The dolphins approached the boats from every direction, riding the bow waves and delighting everyone on board with their playful behaviour. They seemed just as curious about us as we were about them!
During the afternoon, our guests were also lucky enough to encounter common bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). Unlike the Atlantic spotted dolphins, bottlenose dolphins are larger, swim at a more relaxed pace, and are often less interested in interacting with boats. They are a resident species in Madeira and can be spotted all year round. Living in close-knit family groups, they are highly intelligent and well adapted to the island’s waters.
Another fantastic day at sea, filled with unforgettable dolphin encounters and lasting memories!
