13.4.2014 – VIGIA

Heute nutzen wir den fahrtenfreien Tag um unseren Mann im Hintergrund vorzustellen. Unser “vigia” ist unser Beobachter an Land, der Mann hinter den Ferngläsern. Er fängt schon früher als der Rerst der Mannschaft an zu arbeiten und sucht mit seinen Ferngläsern nach den Meeressäugern. Dazu bedarf es grosser Konzentration, guter Augen und ausser Erfahrung auch viel Geduld. Das Meer und seine Bewohner hinterlassen Zeichen, manchmal ist es der Flug eines einzigen Vogels, manchmal die “Fußabdrücke” eines Wals oder eine Welle, die anders aussah als die anderen, was die Tiere verrät. Unser Späher ist mobil und wer ihn am Strassenrand sieht kann ihm bei seiner Arbeit zuschauen und manchmal lässt er auch den einen oder anderen Gast auch einmal durch seine Ferngläser schauen oder erklärt ein wenig über seine Beobachtungen oder seine Arbeit. Auf ein weiterhin erfolgreiches Sichtungsjahr 2014!!!

Today we want to introduce you the man behind the curtain: our spotter! He is the one standing on land with his big binoculares watching the sea for animals. Drumond starts his work before the rest of the team, and it can be quiet chalenging some times. For this job you have to have good eyes, concentration and lots of patience. Cetaceans leave little marks wherever they are, somethimes he findes them because of a whales footprint, a blow, birds and somethimes even because he saw a diferent spark or shine. Our spotter is allways on the move but if you see him somewhere don't be shy and go talk to him, he can tell you a lot more about his job or even let you have a peek.

Hoje damos vos a conhecer o nosso vigia: Drumond! Começa a trabalhar antes da equipa toda procurando o mar por algum sinal de cetáceos. Este trabalho requer boa vista, experiência e muuuuita paciência. Os cetáceos deixam pequenas marcas no mar por onde vão passando, as vezes uma pegada de uma baleia, um sopro, uma onda, uma ave ou até mesmo um brilho fora do normal, e o nosso vigia está sempre atento a tudo isto.
