Did you know that Madeira is home to some of the most fascinating marine creatures? Let’s dive into the world of Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) and Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus)!
Although we had rough weather conditions we were lucky to find the charismatic bottlenose dolphins swimming along the coast. Surfing the windy waves like professionals. They are known for their dazzling acrobatics, and are truly the life of the sea! They’re highly intelligent and incredibly social, often seen in pods, making them a joy to watch.
The day got even better when we received the call of our spotter letting us know that not far from the bottlenose one of the biggest whales had just come out to breath! A sperm whale the mighty rulers of the deep, are another magnificent species found in the waters around Madeira. These giants can reach lengths of up to approximately 15.85 meters and are famous for their impressive diving abilities, reaching depths of over 914 meters!
