02.10.2023 – The journey of resilience

Published by Paula Thake on October 9, 2023

Today, we had some incredible sightings of Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) and Pilot Whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) that left us in awe. Among our encounters, we spotted a Bottlenose Dolphin with a distinctive feature – a cut dorsal fin. This marks a fascinating chapter in the life of these marine marvels. But what does it mean?

A cut dorsal fin can result from various factors, both natural and man-made. It might be from interactions with predators, encounters with sharp objects, or even from boat-related injuries. Despite these challenges, dolphins are incredibly resilient creatures. This warrior spirit is a testament to their adaptability and strength.

Encountering these dolphins with battle scars reminds us of the importance of responsible boating and conservation efforts. Let’s continue to be mindful of our impact on these incredible beings and their ocean home. Let’s keep the conversation going and work towards a future where our oceans thrive alongside their magnificent inhabitants. Remember, every encounter with these majestic creatures is a privilege. Let’s cherish and protect the wonders of the sea!
