Although our spotter gave us the information soon after leaving the harbor that he had sighted dolphins, it took a long time today until we reached the observation area. Typical Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba), they can often be found far from the coast. Typical of the Striped dolphins was their frequent, quick change of direction. Typical Striped dolphins, they were shy.

Some might think that dolphins are always sociable, but that’s not the case. There are more interactive and more reserved types. The behaviors taking place at this moment (hunting, resting, socializing, mating, etc.) must also be taken into account. Because this also has an effect on the observation situation and accordingly on the necessary behavior of the whale watching boat.

The beautifully drawn Striped dolphins are often shy and not always easy to watch. But there were a few great leaps to watch. At such moments you can see the artistic drawing on the dolphin’s body very well.

An important rule in the encounter with the marine mammals for Lobosonda is a respectful encounter with the animals of the sea. It is of course very important to us to create beautiful, unforgettable moments for our tourists. Since we are guests on the ocean, responsible practice towards the respective situation and the marine mammals is a matter of course. Today in our encounter with the shy, this meant leaving the observation area a little earlier out of respect for the Striped dolphins.
