Respect for Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old climate activist who, with open eyes and a big, courageous heart for nature, gives answers to the world that not everyone likes to hear. A young woman who does not mince words and actively advocates for climate protection. Meanwhile her education work for the climate policy finds worldwide attention.
On 20 August 2018, the first day of school after the summer holidays, Greta Thunberg courageously stepped forward with a sign “School strike for the climate” in front of the Swedish Parliament. Her intention at the time was to persuade Sweden, her homeland, to abide by the Paris Climate Agreement. Up to the election in November 2018, she demonstrated her determination to make a difference every day. At the beginning of this courageous action she was alone, but this changed quickly, already in November joined other young people in many communities in Sweden and it did not remain that way! Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland … the youth went on the streets and stood behind Greta’s request that they have a right to their future! On November 30, 2018, more than 10,000 students in Australia went on strike for the climate. Greta, who stood up for a cause at the beginning of her action, triggered something that made (life) school. It became a worldwide movement “Fridays for Future”.
Honest and direct is Greta! And that’s exactly what we need! No soft-talk, but clarity, a new course and action is what our planet needs!
“In America, the climate problem is treated as an opinion (pro or con), with us it is a fact!” Incomprehensible that the economy and politics look at wonder to the direct events (species extinction, increased environmental disasters, etc.) and are not willing to count one and one together and change their actions. One could almost think that in the field of nature / climate protection a violent form of blindness or procrastination has caught all those responsible. But hopefully this new wave of youth movement will end it! May there be more and more gifted, young people who are not stuck in digital dementia and selfie-hiep, but announce that they disagree with our forward-looking politics.
These young people demand more political responsibility in the area of climate protection. A future they demand for their generation! And they are right! Nothing else should do politics, but also each one of us! We are a temporary guest on this wonderful planet! No right to destruction, only the duty to preserve!
And is not Greta right when she points out that this is a failure if greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, despite the Climate Change Conference, which has been taking place since 1995? How smart, when such a young person has realized that it is the duty of rich countries to lower their emission levels faster than anyone else!
“What I hope to achieve at this conference is the realization that we are facing an existential threat. This is the biggest crisis humanity has ever faced. First, we need to recognize this and then do something as soon as possible to stop the emissions and try to save what we can save.”

Consistent is Greta! She sees the importance, the haste, of protecting our climate, and decided for a year to suspend the school to devote herself entirely to climate activism.
Inspirational is Greta! This impressive young woman manages to listen to her, open her heart to this all-important issue, and rethink and hopefully change her own actions. That’s what we need! At the closing ceremony of Earth Strike week in Montreal, she spoke to half a million people. She said that if people in power do not take responsibility, they will!
We are a society that prefers to believe in what is visible and proven. Fine, science has evidence that it’s high time to act. Greta urges her to unit behind these scientists. Greta demands that her generation take on her own future, and shamefully, that this generation must clean up the mess that has caused all previous generations.
