A group of six Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) traveled calmly towards Funchal today. We were able to accompany them for a while, but when two more boats came along, we decided to leave the sighting area. Responsible whale watching also includes making this decision in such situations. We have no right to harass, stress, or encircle marine mammals with too many boats. We are the guests on the sea. We can offer an invitation to our marine mammals, but they ultimately decide if and how they want to interact with us. This principle has the highest priority.
