Bilder der heutigen Fahrten mit der “Ribeira Brava” und vielen gemeinen Delfinen und den ersten Gelbschnabelsturmtauchern in 2013
The pictures of todays trips with the “Ribeira Brava” and lots and lots of common dolphins and the first Cory Shearwarters for the year 2013. We saw some other interesting birds, but the photos couldn’t help to identify them. A birdwatcher onboard thinks it could have been a Kitty … in her first winter. My book is in the shop in Calheta so more information will be posted later or perhaps given by the birdwatcher when he reads our blog 😉 thanks in advance

A fabulous day! So glad that I rebooked after not seeing anything on my first attempt. Thank you so much
I agree with Heather, 2.2.2013 was a fabulous day out in a lovely restored traditional Madeiran fishing boat, with perhaps a couple of hundred Common Dolphins seen leeping about. I was the birdwatcher who also saw the unusual sea bird – it was only seen for a very short time and all I can say is that it was almost certainly either a first winter Little Gull, first winter Kittiwake, or a first winter Sabine’s Gull (they all look similar) which are all listed in Wikipedia as Accidentals for Madeira, i.e. pretty rare. There was also a Gannet near which is also listed as an Accidental in Madeira. Thanks so much for such a excellent experience.
Thanks for your comment Vic, at home I was very sorry because the photos I took from the unusual seabird were all blurred. So we’ll never find out which bird it was. Like I said birdwatching is much more difficult than whale watching. But some days later we saw these bird (look at the blog from 6.2.2013) and tell me if it’s the same species, what do you think?
