Maybe you know the feeling when you’re watching a thriller movie and know that something is going to happen anytime, something can lurk behind every corner … but when does it happen? So, this was experienced today by our guests for several times. First, in search of the Tropical whales (Balaenoptera edeni), who were heading into the wind with a few unexpected turns. But then, one of these baleen whales sneaked up to us. Seeing this big body shimmering under our boat Stenella, made us holding our breath.
On the way to Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) we left a school Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) behind us, in the hope to meet the biggest of the Toothed whales. But nature meant it differently with us. While waiting in the area, we expected to see these huge whales but the Bottlenose dolphins appeared. We all enjoyed a little dolphin spectacle to everyone’s delight.
And like a good thriller, where you do not know what happens next, suddenly Sperm whales were on our sighting schedule … it was exciting, as a teen Sperm whale was stalked cheekily by Stenella. It was exciting as well as two Sperm whales majestically lifted their tails to slide into the blue space. A great tour full of adventurous developments … a real whale thriller.
In the end, there were two too daring marine mammals of other species in front of the harbor entrance, who probably wanted to dive with a little adrenalin kick.
