Swell, swell and swell were waiting for us today. A little preparation for what should come in the next few days. But especially on such ondulating days, an encounter with marine mammals can be intense and special, like today! A large, widely scattered school of Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) moved to the north-west. The dolphins jumped as singles, doubles and trios over wave crests. Big wave visits were abundant, to our delight. Near the boat, we could see an animal missing a part of its dorsal fin. Take a look at today’s photos, the animal is easy to identify. In another dolphin, there is a small notch in the middle of its dorsal fin. Such special marks are important in identifying an individual. Where, with whales, the tail is taken for identification, it is dolphin’s dorsal fin.
