Today we were lucky to observe on all our trips frequently dolphins. Small schools of Bottlenose dolphins and Common dolphins were in an slow and relaxed mood on their ways. The sea was very calm and so it was a good chance to see the hourglass pattern (Common dolphins) and other details of their beautiful bodycolouration. Some of the bottlenose had calves with them, so they were rather shy not coming so close to us. As often as possible, we switched off the motor and were drifting along with them. Our guests on the Stenella tour also had the chance to see marine-turtles (Caretta caretta), taking a sunbath. On a windstill day like today, we also manage to see some of “portuguese man of war” on their way at the surface. They are cnidarian (similar to jellyfish) which have a funny kind of gas-filled sail on top of their bodies. With this, they manage to sail with the winds. Since they are on their menue, seaturtles like to eat the jellyfish-like sailors. For us humans, it is better to stay far away from because contact is very painfull (they nettle).
