Rough-toothed dolphins (Steno bredanensis)—my favorite dolphins—and Risso’s dolphins (Grampus griseus) are fundamentally different in character. Rough-toothed dolphins are sociable, even with boats, playful, and photogenic, often putting on quite a show. Risso’s dolphins, on the other hand, tend to be shy and reserved around boats. Today’s photos bear this out.
