            28.07.2026 – Relocating

Published by Gemma Stockmans on August 3, 2026

Today’s trips were a great example of how important communication is between our boats and our spotter. In whale watching, teamwork is often the key to unforgettable encounters.

During both our morning and afternoon tours, several sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) were in the area. Their long dive times, made relocating them a real challenge. Thanks to the guidance of our spotter, both the Ribeira Brava and Steno boats were able to be in the right place when the whales resurfaced. Guests enjoyed watching their distinctive angled blow before the whales arched their backs and lifted their tail flukes high as they began another deep dive.
Our 16:30 tour was also rewarded with a sighting of a Bryde’s whale (Balaenoptera edeni). Bryde’s whales usually make shorter dives and surface smoothly with a tall, vertical blow.
Every trip reminds us how diverse and fascinating the Atlantic’s marine life is.
