The ocean was incredibly calm today with a smooth water surface, almost like a mirror. In Portuguese, they call these conditions “mar de azeite” which translates to olive oil sea. When the sea is this calm it is not only smooth sailing, encounters can also be extra special, giving us a chance to see the animals through the surface with perfect clarity. We got to enjoy Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) and Blainville’s beaked whales (Mesoplodon densirostris).
