08.08.2023 – Good planning goes a long way

Published by Paula Thake on August 16, 2023

Todays tour was all about good planning and good timing. We started the morning with a lot of excitement as we got to see the amazing Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba), they were so fast it was really difficult to take pictures, but that just left more space for admiring the landscape as they breached next to us. Their playful colors just made us admire this species more. Our journey was graced also by the presence of the Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) showcasing their playful elegance as they hunted for fish in synchrony with the Cory’s shearwaters (Calonectris borealis).

But todays day of August brought us something even bigger. We saw not one, but two encounters with the majestic Sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus). These giants surfaced gracefully, emitting misty spouts that left us humbled by their presence.

And although Ribeira Brava didn’t see whales they had some mesmerizing sightings of not only the biggest Giant manta (Mobula birostris) gliding beneath the surface, but also a serene Loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta). Today was a reminder of the enchanting world beneath the waves and our responsibility to safeguard it.

Join us again for more nature-filled escapades and let’s preserve the magic of our oceans together.
