A much lesser affluence of dolphins today was the great contrast from the past trips. Our sightings were of lower dolphin aggregations and scattered along the area. Following logic and by deduction when observing dolphin hunting behaviours, it seems that the amount of prey has decreased drastically since last week. This of course comes as no surprise after last week we witnessed for several days a “feeding frenzy” on Snipefish (Macroramphosus scolopax). After the abundance of last week, it seems that the Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) and the Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) are relying more on dispersed “small attack units”, for a more efficient hunt…..
