On all five tours on this Easter Monday we were able to observe many marine mammals. Right after leaving the marina in the morning tours, we found “common dolphins” which were feeding. Above their head sailed many Cory shearwater birds. Those oceanic birds are now starting to collect around Madeira, in order to start soon their breeding season (in the cliffs).
During our trips we manage to see several times bottlenose dolphins, heading on a western track. Later, our fabulous scouts (spotter) lead us to the pilot whales. Those small toothed whales lives in social groups and are seen all year around in the waters of Madeira. Her latin name means “black button shaped head”. Today they had many calves with them and moved slowly forward, partly close enough, so that we could hear them breathing. A majestic look.
