What happened in Rainbow land today was wonderful. Today’s guests and the crew were able to admire many Short-finned Pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus), many Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) and many rainbows. There was also a lot of joy and enthusiasm involved in all of this. Where there are rainbows, there is usually rain. But we were spared.
Since the animals were spread over a large area, both in width and in length, the encounter felt like an endless stream of animals. What a privilege to be able to observe these unique creatures in their natural habitat. It was an astounding day in rainbow land.
Unfortunately, while we can watch both species with tranquillity and wonder, there are places where these two species are not safe. They fall victim to human “tradition”, I would rather call it arrogance, brutality and ignorance. Two of the places where such crime is committed against these and other marine mammals are the Faeroe Islands and Tajii/ Japan. If you want to protect these wonderful, beautiful marine mammals, you can do so on our petition page.
