Last week, the weather made it hard for us to get out but this week started with a calm sea and great sightings. During the morning our guests were able to observe Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis), Pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) and Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus).
How nice to see that our “summer dolphins”, the Atlantic spotted dolphins are still, to be found, here. This is, to our delight, a very interactive dolphin species. Today, there were plenty opportunities to admire them in the bow wave of the Ribeira Brava. If we see them sliding through the water in the blue expanse with elegance and ease, there is nothing else for that one moment. It is an absolute arrival in the NOW. Everything else stays on land. There is only room to marvel at this beauty and immerse yourself for a moment into this world of marine mammals. What a wonderful experience! I am always happy when our guests get the opportunity to do so.
The Pilot whales moved past us in close group formation and a Bottlenose dolphin came into our bow wave with two small calves. Today we had really nice moments on the sea. Please, dear guests, keep these wonderful animals in your heart.
