In the morning both boats were able to observe Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) directly in front of the harbor. What is characteristic is their short snout, which gives them their English name Bottlenose dolphins. Along with great apes, elephants and humans, they are among the most intelligent creatures on our planet.
We set out to find Pilot whales, but they were moving quickly east and we had no chance of reaching them. Our spotter reported Striped dolphins five nautical miles off Ponta do Sol. So we continued our journey in that direction. We didn’t find the dolphins. A massive wall of rain stretched between us and the island. Our spotter could therefore no longer support us from land. We didn’t find the pot of gold under the rainbow out there, but it was truly spectacular to drive towards this radiant, shining, beautiful, double rainbow. A very special experience. But it was too wet to take a picture. So this rainbow remains in our memory and hearts.
