            25.04.2019 – Results of love

Published by Marlene Cabral on May 3, 2019

Finally back to the sea, since wind and wave kept us from visiting our friends, the marine mammals. But today it was time and already in heaven was written (Check our photos 😉 ), whatever was for today, the results of the love that were already from last year. Many small calves were seen at the school of Common Dolphins (Delphinus delphis). A healthy mother can get a calf every 2-3 years. In the case of common dolphins the gestation period is 12 months.

Also a small group of Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) pleased our hearts. The animals came for a flying visit and the animals socialized. Socializing strengthens the cohesion, creates an important bond, which has a positive effect on team work and thus one is more successful in hunting together.

In the afternoon, repeaters and newbies had this wonderful dolphin combination of Bottlenose dolphins and Common dolphins. And we are convinced that observation with marine mammals can be gentle AND lead to becoming EnDOLPHIN addicted. 🙂

As for the migratory birds that we were allowed to observe in the afternoon, we got an expert opinion. These are Whimbrels (Numenius phaeopus), which belong to the order of the Charadriiformes. The wintering areas of this species are: the coasts of Africa, the Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean, Southeast Asia and Australia. The Whimbrel breeds in the tundra and taiga zones of northern Eurasia; Central and Eastern Siberia, Alaska, and in Northwest of Canada. This species prefers coastal marshy, sandy, muddy areas.
