24.04.2024 – WHALESDAY 

Today’s expedition in Madeira gifted us with extraordinary sightings that will be etched in our memories forever! From the playful Common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) to the charismatic Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), the ocean was alive with wonder.

Yet, the highlight of our day came with the sunrise, as we beheld the majestic sight of a Blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus)– a true titan of the sea, gliding gracefully through the azure waves. Witnessing the largest animal on Earth in its natural habitat was a breathtaking moment that left us in awe of the ocean’s grandeur.

But the surprises didn’t end there! In the afternoon, as if choreographed by nature herself, a magnificent Humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) graced us with its presence. And not only did it appear, but it breached, soaring out of the water in a display of sheer power and grace.

Today’s encounters were a reminder of the incredible diversity and beauty of marine life in Madeira. Each sighting filled us with wonder and gratitude for the opportunity to witness such marvels.
