Today was truly an adventure! The weather in the morning wasn’t looking as bright as in the last days, but still promising to make it for a nice whale watching trip and a snorkeling with dolphin adventure. As both our boats left the marina and travelled towards the east, we were still optimistic our spotter Carlos would find us a nice group of dolphins.
And so he did! Our fast Stenella boat made it to a small pod of Atlantic spotted Dolphins (Stenella frontalis) to observe them underwater. Wind and waves were picking up, which didn’t make it the easiest for our guests, but we still had a glimpse on the beautiful Atlantic species, that’s known to get more and more spots with age!
Meanwhile, the wind was picking up and our second boat, our traditional fishing vessel from back in the days was still chasing through the seas to hopefully make it to the pod as well!
..For the Ribeira Brava it showed up to be the sad reality of what whale watching tours can be: wet, windy, and unfortunately without sighting. But one it was for sure: a true Adventure out on our oceans, that left most of us with a smile either way. Sometimes it’s not just about the sightings itself, but to enjoy a ride on a charming old fishing vessel and to see our beautiful island from a different perspective. Trips like this definitely separate the wheat from the chaff, but for a true seaman (and seawoman) absolutely worthwhile nonetheless!
