            23.06.2018 – “Bravo!”

Published by Marlene Cabral on July 3, 2018

“Bravo”, called the little seafarer Sebastian, when we spotted dolphins. This year he comes in kindergarden but he already knows, what is worth to say “Bravo”. 🙂 The dolphins did for sure a super good job. There is nothing better as making mini guests but as well the adult guests happy. 🙂

Since you had today two guides we have a puzzle blog and both will contribute their part.

On some days the sea is flat and calm close to shore but we face quite some waves and wind a few miles out. Spectacular clouds, very beautiful to watch, escorted us on our trip. We left harbor with calm seas but the wind picked up and we had, some waves but not so strong. Anyhow it was still beautiful. The morning sun partially pierced through the overcast sky, which created a spectacular view of reflections and light exchange between ocean and atmosphere. By the way a wavy ocean can led to a special experience, when for example dolphins are surfing with the waves and just coming out on the hightest point of the wave.

We were offshore and enjoyed the sunlight as well as the presence of very active Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis). First, we met a little subgroup and a bit later the whole big pod. The animals were extraordinarily agile today and one particular dolphin showed some spectacular jumps in our vicinity. In a short dash, common dolphins can reach a speed of up to 60 km/h. Additionally, they are able to maneuver and turn very quick and precise. Those extraordinary swimming abilities enable them to catch small and fast-moving swarm fish species.

The Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) seemed to be huge and powerful compared to the smaller Common dolphins. They approach curiously the boat and enjoyed bow riding. One animal swam always in the shape of an eight, turned to the side and looked up to us. We even could hear its sounds. Maybe he wished us a nice weekend?
