22.12.2022 – Favorite food

Today we had two little guests on board, two sweet sisters. Anuk enthusiastically told me that she prefers to eat noodles. Noodles are the best for her! If possible, every day! But what do marine mammals like best? The Short-finned pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) we encountered today definitely love squid. To do this, they dive 600 to 700 meters a day. At night, when the squid’s food rises and the squid follows, these beautiful marine mammals only have to descend 100 to 300 meters. That’s less energy! This is of course preferred. But they eat whenever possible. And what do the Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis), which we also met today, eat? They like fish, small cephalopods and invertebrates. And what is your favorite food?
