Wow, wow, wow! Today’s last tour of the day with the Stenella was definitely something very special. About 15 Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) were off the coast of Madeira. There were seven to eight Sperm whales in our immediate vicinity, including a calf. It felt as if we were in the middle of a whale soup. Even when we drove out cautiously, it was as if we had to feel our way through a labyrinth to find our way back. But first, we were able to observe spyhops. One whale repeatedly raised its fluke and slapped the surface of the sea. What a powerful hit on the water surface.
