Sometimes, we have clients asking if we always go to the same place. The answer is No, because the animals are always travelling and we do not have animals that live permanently around Madeira waters. There are seasons where we see more of one specie, like the Spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) these are Summer dolphins or the Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) the Winter dolphins. as we say. But there are species that we can see all year round like the Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) or the gentle Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus).
Today we had these giants outside waiting for us. In the morning trip when we were almost losing hope of seeing something, a solitary specimen showed up just next to our boat which made up for all the miles we had made. In the afternoon, the wind picked up a bit and the swell wasn’t on our side but we managed to see him again. Sometimes you need to go far to have a sighting but hope never dies and at the end it is always worth it.
