This morning was the very best example of how you can recognise from a distance whether it is a baleen whale or a Sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) by looking at the spout. Stenella’s guests were able to observe a Tropical whale (Balaenoptera edeni) and Sperm whales. While baleen whales have two blowholes placed on the top of the head so that the spout goes straight up, the Sperm whale’s blowhole is on the front left, which propels the spout forwards at a 45-degree angle. It’s that quick and you are whale experts.
