The azure waters of Madeira were nothing short of magical today, gifting us with a day of extraordinary sightings. At first the charismatic Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), the magnificent Pilot Whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus), and the playful Atlantic Spotted Dolphins (Stenella frontalis) graced us with their presence.
As we were focused on the water we were able to spot the enigmatic Risso’s Dolphins (Grampus griseus). These captivating creatures, with their scar-covered bodies, are shrouded in mystery. Their presence added an air of wonder and intrigue to the afternoon. Did you know that Risso’s Dolphins are known for their distinct social behavior and intricate vocalizations?
