Today our marine mammals and nature were a real patience trainer for our guests. Shy Striped Dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) kept their distance, reticent Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) went their own way and Blainville’s Beaked Whales (Mesoplodon densirostris) only showed up briefly on the evening tour. Nature cannot be calculated. Sometimes we go out and meet true abundance, other days the sea seems empty. Or not? Maybe it’s time to change focus? In the evening we discovered a Trigger Fish under a bucket and a few crabs had made themselves comfortable on a Styrofoam fender. Ribeira Brava had an encounter with a beautiful Dolphinfish (Coryphaenidae). They are colloquially known as Mahi Mahi. They grow up to 1.50 meters long. Their dorsal fin extends from the head down the entire back. Dolphinfish are among the fastest swimming fish.
