19.08.2017 – Little european sister of Hawaii

Published by lobosonda on August 27, 2017

Madeira is sometimes called the european Hawaii. Similar to the archipelago in the Pacific ocean, also the Portuguese islands arised from the ocean floor as a vulcanic “hotspot”. Madeira has subtropical landscape, steep cliffs and is situated far away from continents.

Sometimes, high expectations of a dream destination as Hawaii even cannot be fulfilled.

Some of our guests today reported about their great trip to Hawaii and their whale watching trips. Of course these islands are, as a whole, unbeatable in many points. It is an archipelago of superlatives. Especially if you manage to catch the right time when there are jumping humpack whales. But like here, also there you can never guarantee such experiences. So our guests even liked their tour with us today a lot.

We had a great start in the day with a big school of Atlantic spotted dolphins, following us for a while. At the evening we managed to observe feeding animals from the same species, having a “feeding frenzy”. Guests of Stenella evening tour then were lucky to reach the “big” ones in time, Spermwhales. Thank you Carlos (Spotter) for your eagle eyes.
