Today Calheta came alive with a symphony of marine life. Our snorkelling adventure at 09:30 am was graced by the presence of the delightful Atlantic Spotted Dolphins (Stenella frontalis). These playful creatures danced through the waves, filling the air with their contagious energy.
Later on, we had the privilege of encountering the majestic Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) and the enigmatic Pilot Whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus). These mighty beings glided through the ocean, leaving us in awe of their power and grace. And just among them, a Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta caretta) joined the view, adding a touch of ancient wisdom to the scene. Did you know that Loggerhead Turtles have been on Earth for over 100 million years? These ancient mariners have witnessed the rise and fall of many species and hold a wealth of ecological knowledge within them.
Today’s encounters remind us of the incredible diversity of life that calls these waters home. Let’s cherish and protect this extraordinary ecosystem for generations to come. As Sylvia Earle wisely said, “No water, no life. No blue, no green.” Let’s ensure that our oceans remain vibrant and teeming with life.
