            17.11.2020 – No dentist needed

Published by Fatima Kutzschbach on November 24, 2020

It was wonderful today! Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) alone, Sperm whales in a pair, Sperm whales in a group of seven. Sperm whales with the Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis). Resting, breathing, socializing and relaxing Sperm whales, but as well some tail slaps and spy hops where the lifted their smaller and gigantic heads out of the water.

AND who has ever looked a Sperm whale in its mouth? OUR guests! By the way, the heaviest tooth can weigh a kilo! And anyone who knows the fear of the dentist may envy Sperm whale a little. The Sperm whale is able to repair tooth holes with a circumference of 5 cm itself. The tooth of the largest toothed whale is encased in the outer layer of ivory, which can continue to grow. There are also teeth nucleus in the jaw of the Sperm whale that can be activated. If a hole accrues , a fine ivory network is formed while the tooth nucleus develops and becomes embedded in the core of this network. What an enormous achievement by nature!

Sperm whales that live in matriarchy are extremely sociable animals that have a very close social structure. Even if they hunt alone, they get together afterwards and enjoy each other’s company. Sperm whales will probably not take away the right to gather. 😉

Definitely a wonderful experience at sea that our guests will remember for a long time. Right?
