Today it was just about possible to take both boats out to sea in the morning before the weather conditions put whale watching into question for a few days. On such days you can clearly feel how dependent we are on the external conditions, whether it is that marine mammals are in our area or the weather allows us to go out.
But today both boats, our traditional fishing boat and the Stenella, our speedboat, brought our guests to Short-finned Pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) and some Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). Both species moved rapidly through the sea. Pilot whales are usually more leisurely on the move, but today they swam at a fast pace. The Bottlenose dolphins surfed powerfully in the waves. The guests enjoyed the observation and were quickly able to recognize both species based on their different body features, such as the dorsal fin.
On our way back, the wind had already picked up, and we made it to the harbor in time before the bad weather took its course.
